Guided walking tour of Dinghaiqiao by Zhao Yiren, followed by a moderated talk with Zhao Yiren by Julie Chun
For the 11th Shanghai Biennale, a citywide component entitled “51 Personae” had taken place, which involved 51 encounters with a wide array of local professionals and anyone fromany part of the city wishing to take part in this organized gathering conceived by Raqs Media Collective (the guest curators of the 11th Shanghai Biennale) and Chen Yun (curator of the 51 Personae project). While seemingly novel, 51 Personae was not a new project. It stems from Dinghaiqiao Mutual-Aid Society established in 2015 by Chen Yun (with inspiration and support from colleagues and neighbours) that takes the notion of a local community as a site of dialogue and mutually complimentary exchange. With Chen Yun on maternity leave, this special walking tour of the community known as Dinghaiqiao will be led by the voluntarily on-site coordinator Zhao Yiren. Zhao will discuss the imperatives of documenting this sector of Shanghai’s disappearing city as she leads us through the community where we will encounter the members of the local community while partaking in a light street-style lunch (at your own cost). After the guided walk, we will congregate at the site of Dinghaiqiao Mutual-Aid Society where a moderated talk will take place with Julie Chun of RAS and Zhao Yiren.Address in English: 252 Dinghaigang LuAddress in Chinese: 定海港路252号Subway: Metro Line 12 Aiguo Road Station
