Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth and Faith in the New China
Evan Osnos
Evan Osnos is an American staff writer at The New Yorker, where he served as the China correspondent from 2008 to 2013. Osnos currently lives in Washington, DC, and writes about politics and foreign affairs at The New Yorker. He is the winner of two Overseas Press Club awards and the Asia Society's Osborn Elliott Prize for Excellence in Journalism on Asia. Age of Ambition won the 2014 National Book Award for non-fiction (USA)
In this, his first book, Osnos writes about people who run the gamut from a public figure like Lin Yifu (World Bank economist who defected to mainland China from Taiwan in 1979) to an obscure figure like Michael Zhang, a young energetic optimist whom Osnos first meets at a Crazy English conference and then follows for a few years.
Against the backdrop of major events in China of the last five years, Osnos tells stories of individuals as they try to better their lives. (Oracle of Adelphi/Amazon)
