Chinese Calligraphy of the Late Ming Dynasty
Chinese Calligraphy is a huge subject viewed from a multitude of perspectives and times. Huang Yuanqing will focus on Calligraphy in the late Ming Dynasty tracing the origin of ideas of the past as well as leading us through thought process of the times.
Investigating calligraphy of the late Ming Dynasty, he will look and discuss the source of ideological trends in literati painting in the Song Dynasty, and how it influenced Li Zhi’s theory of the pure childlike innocence, written during the Ming Dynasty.
He will illustrate how calligraphy’s emphasis and appearance, following a rigid set of rules and exemplifying humanity, in earlier times, changed to express the individual, during the Ming Dynasty.
Throughout this period, discoveries and research into non transitional art shifted the viewpoint thereby changing views of the ‘classical’.
Huang Yuanqing will further examine how the then contemporary perspectives, changed the manner in which calligraphy was viewed, its relationship to literati painting, traditional painting and calligraphy, seal carving and copying from the past. As well as the persons who practiced calligraphy.
Huang Yuanqing is a native
