Ever wish you could take a college level course on Chinese history without having to suffer through exams or the logistics of getting to class?  RAS brings you this opportunity in the form of a series of lectures on DVD followed by discussion amongst your fellow RAS in China Shanghai Branch members.  

"The Fall and Rise of China" is a course of lectures forming a part of the series; The Great Courses, publisher of college level courses taught by university professors.  This series covers the modern history of China from 600AD to present day. Each lecture is approx. 30 minutes in length and will be followed by an hour (or longer) discussion afterwards, among the group. The Lecturer for this series is Professor Richard Baum.

Professor Richard Baum is a Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of California, LA, specializing in modern Chinese politics and foreign relations.  He earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.  He has been a consultant to the White house, the United Nations, and the Rand Corporation and a commentator on Chinese and East Asian affairs for the BBC, CNN, and NPR.
