A Look at Emerging Chinese Artists

We kick off our Art Focus event in November at the Rockbund Art Museum, a private museum housed at the site of the former Royal Asiatic Society Building. The talk and walk-through of the exhibition will be led by Daniel Szehin Ho, editor-in-chief of Randian online (www.randian-online.com), a bilingual online magazine devoted to contemporary art and criticism in China and beyond.
Join us to learn about the critically renowned emerging artists from Greater China, now shown at the Hugo Boss Asia Art finalist exhibition. Artists include Lee Kit (who represented Hong Kong at the 2013 Venice Biennale), Birdhead (a photography duo who capture fleeting moments in contemporary Shanghai), Li Liao (an artist investigating issues of labour, most famously by getting himself hired at a FoxConn iPad Mini plant), Hu Xiangqian (an artist engaged in critique of museums and art institutions), Li Wei (who captures ephemeral moments in sculpture, along with a variety of works), as well as Kwan Sheung Chi (an artist very much involved in staging political interventions in ironic and humorous ways). All these artists work with a diverse array of media – performance, film, photography, installation – but interestingly, perhaps, no painting.
