NEW DISCOVERIES: THE LIANGZHU CULTURE
Helga Ellemeet will introduce us to the Liangzhu Culture and will cover some of the discoveries made over the last two decades at the site; the centre of the Liangzhu Culture, located just north of present-day Hangzhou.
The Liangzhu culture was the last jade culture of the Chinese Neolithic period and lasted from around 3400BC until about 2250BC.

Recent excavations at Liangzhu make it clear that organizing huge projects, such as an Expo, is in the genes of the Chinese who live in the region of the lower
Excavated artefacts from tombs within this city are proof that the Liangzu society was also highly cultivated both in the material and spiritual field.
Best known for their ritual jades; she will explain how some of the objects were produced and how they possibly related to the people for whom they were made.
