Survey of Art in China – Session 4

Shifting Forces: Paintings by the Shanghai School
We continue with the fourth session in the series Survey of Art in China, a systematic study taught by the RAS Art Convener Julie Chun (MA, Art History). For this session, we will explore the socio-economic context in which traditional Chinese painting took a shift toward modernism.  This pivotal transition occurred none other than in our very own city of Shanghai. We will discuss the critical features that came to define “modern art” in China as we study samples of works by the prominent artists who were responsible for transforming the visual culture of Shanghai.

Exact meeting location will be provided to those confirmed.

Please note that RSVP is essential due to limited spaces.  Priority booking will be given to current RAS members.
