Towards Modernism
Please note that RSVP is essential due to limited spaces. Priority booking will be given to current RAS members.
For our fifth session in the series Survey of Art in China, we turn our attention to defining the categorical conditions of “modern” and “contemporary art.” Through a systematic study that examines the social and political context, Art Historian Julie Chun will take you back in time to investigate a pivotal juncture in China's history where art became rooted in modernism with a radical shift in medium, stylistic format and artistic training within the cross confluence where the East and West merged at a craft school for orphans in Xujiahui.
