We continue our exploration of Chinese contemporary art by examining the group show The System of Objects at the Minsheng Art Museum. Julie Chun (MA, Art History) will continue the discussion begun at the Yuz Museum for Art Focus last month wherein we were introduced to works by prominent Shanghai-based artists. The current exhibition at Minsheng Art Museum ties in works by younger artists with those of well-established artists. We will review not only the object-based contents and its relational discourse on consumerism and fetishism, but more importantly, consider how canons come to be established in art history.
