Useless

(2007, Jia Zhangke)
Useless is a 2007 documentary directed by Jia Zhangke. It is Jia's second full-length documentary film after 2006's Dong. The film follows China's fashion and clothing industry. The film was produced by Jia Zhangke's own Xstream Pictures, in association with the China Film Association and the Mixmind Art and Design Company.
The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Sabine Ichikawa. Sabine is a French researcher based in Shanghai, with 30 years of experience in the fashion and luxury industries. She is currently following the re-emergence of Shanghai as a fashion capital. By comparing Shanghai with other cities, especially Tokyo, she aims to find alternatives for Shanghai’s creative fashion development. She holds a PhD in Business History, an MBA in International Luxury Brand Management, and a BA in Fashion Design.
