Julie Chun (MA, Art History) will not only be discussing the paintings by Claude Monet currently showing at K11. She will take you into the artistic world of Paris at the turn of the century and provide the broader context of French social history to help you better understand the paintings by Monet. She will discuss the emergence of the major painters who came to be pejoratively called the “Impressionists”. She will explain why their paintings are so beloved by the world and take you beyond the standard reasoning about “light effects” to underscore their true significance in the canons of art history.
